Look up a French company by SIREN or name, via API

Find a French company in the official registry by SIREN, SIRET or name and get its legal status, legal form, activity code, address and creation date in one normalized shape.

The job

Every French company has a SIREN, a nine-digit number, and every establishment a fourteen-digit SIRET. The state registry behind them, SIRENE and the RNE, says whether the company is active or closed, its legal form, its main activity code and its registered address.

That is the first check before a French company becomes a customer, a supplier or a counterparty: does it exist, is it still active, and is the address it gave the one on record.

Why an agent needs a tool for it

The registry has a public search API, but its answers are built for search, with many fields an agent does not need. verify_company accepts either a number or a name, returns up to five candidates in a normalized shape, and fails with a hint when nothing matches.

The same shape is used for the United Kingdom through Companies House, so one agent covers both registries by changing the country field.

status is the decision field. legalForm, activityCode and headcountRange are the registry's own codes, passed through unchanged so they can be matched against the official nomenclatures.

Limits worth knowing

France and the United Kingdom work on the hosted service. Other countries return an actionable error rather than an empty result.
A search by name can return several companies. The agent should confirm the registration number before acting on a name match.
