Use case · Store Catalog
Track a Shopify competitor's prices and stock
Read a competitor's Shopify collection with current prices, sale prices and stock, a page at a time, from an agent. For scheduled monitoring, the Apify Actor reports only what changed.
The job
Pricing teams watch competitors for price changes, markdowns and products going out of stock. On Shopify, every store publishes its catalog through public storefront endpoints, prices and availability included, which is the data a shopper's browser already receives.
The work is reading it regularly, in a shape that can be compared from one day to the next.
Why an agent needs a tool for it
An agent asked how a competitor prices a category can call list_products on the collection URL and get prices, sale prices and availability in compact rows, rather than downloading and parsing a whole catalog.
For a standing monitor, the Store Catalog Actor on Apify does the comparison itself: with change tracking on, each scheduled run outputs only price drops, price rises, restocks, sell-outs, new and removed products.

}A collection URL limits the read to that collection. When a product is on sale the row also carries compare_at_price and on_sale; neither is present here because neither product was discounted. next_page continues the read.
Limits worth knowing
- The MCP server answers what the store shows now. Keeping history and computing the difference is up to the agent, or to the Actor's change tracking.
- Stores built as headless storefronts that do not serve Shopify's public catalog cannot be read. The tool says so rather than returning an empty list.
- Prices are in the store's own currency, as published. No conversion is applied.
Pricing
1 credit for the calls on this page.
| Tool | Credits per call |
|---|---|
| list_products | 1 |
Credits are prepaid and shared across every server. Starter is $10 for 1,000 credits, packs never expire, and 100 credits are free without a card. Full pricing.
Prefer to run it without an MCP client? Store Catalog is also an Apify Actor, billed by Apify at $1.50 per 1,000 products, $0.005 per change detected.
